Circular of Everything - Syracuse Housing
ARC 307 Architectural Design V / Fall 2024 / Instructor Victor G Zagabe
This project embodies circularity in design, blending sustainability, community engagement, and nature. Set back from the highway for noise reduction and optimal sunlight, the building features a vibrant public common ground for human interactions.
Shared balconies on upper floors redefine the traditional concept of communal living. The semi-public areas on the upper floors include amenities such as a café, gym, multi-faith room, co-working space, pet bath and bird-friendly zones, promoting social interaction and accommodations for various individuals needs. The stepped-back building design offers a variety of unit layouts, allowing residents to choose options that best suit their needs. Additionally, units on the south side are flexible and can be used by individuals or groups outside the building’s primary community.
The landscape design fosters community by blending indoor and outdoor spaces. Pathways align with doorways to connect residents with nature across three key areas: a relaxation zone, playground, and multifunctional space for ping-pong and BBQs. Low-light local plants and trees create a lush, tranquil environment further softening highway noise and visuals while welcoming a larger local community to enjoy the inclusive space.
